SUMMER CLASSES & WORKSHOPS

July 9 – July 31, 2012
Summer is the perfect time to push beyond your boundaries and explore new territory. Company of Fools is proud to present a range of summer classes and workshops that will get your creative energies flowing! Classes will be held in Hailey either at the Liberty Theatre or the Meriwether Building (unless otherwise noted).

ACT II
ACT II is an acting workshop designed exclusively for adults 55 and over. Taught by COF’s Core Company Artist, Denise Simone, ACT II provides participants with an experience of the highest quality. No prior theatre experience is necessary.

ACT II: Acting from the Roots – UP!
July 11, 13, 18, 20, 25 & 27 – 1:00-3:00pm
Instructor: Denise Simone
Tuition: $175

Using material from two sources – Quilters and Spoon River Anthology – this class gives students a chance to work on monologues and short scenes in an ensemble-based process. Through a simple analysis of the text we will learn how to explore, physicalize and finally become the character. The class will culminate in a simple share of our work to an invited audience.

CREATIVE JUMP-IN!S
Creative Jump-IN!s are classes designed for people age 17 and older who want a blast of creativity to electrify their senses. Each class is two hours in length and is taught by Company artists. No prior theatre experience is necessary to participate. Tuition for each Jump-IN! class is $25 (unless otherwise noted).

GOTTA DANCE! GOTTA SING!
July 9 & 10, 1:00-3:00pm (2-day session)
Instructors: RL Rowsey & Dennis Rexroad
Tuition: $50

No need to fear the audition, the first music rehearsal, or the choreographer! This two-day workshop takes you into the rehearsal hall to prepare an actual song. During these sessions, R.L. and Dennis will use the practical preparation of the songs with choreography to demonstrate the techniques and attitudes needed to quiet the noise and engage the creative mind to learn lyrics, harmonies and movements.

CREATING YOUR OWN MONOLOGUE
July 12, 1:00-3:00pm
Instructor: Joel Vilinsky
Got a story to tell? Together we’ll get it on to the page and up on its feet. In this class you will explore writing and performing your very own monologue. The class will focus on various writing strategies and performance techniques to create a piece that is “one-of-a-kind.”

ACTING WITHOUT A NET
July 17, 1:00-3:00pm
Instructor: Andrew Alburger

A person stands in front of an audience, asks them a few questions, and thanks them. What follows next is a series of improvised scenes, stories, monologues and songs based on the suggestions from the audience. You wonder how “a carpenter and a sponge” could ever lead to anything, than find yourself singing that funny sponge song the next day. This workshop will focus on developing scenes and characters from audience suggestions, and working together as an ensemble.

ONE SINGULAR SENSATION!
Instructors: RL Rowsey & Dennis Rexroad
July 19, 1:00-3:00pm

Love to dance but afraid to sing? Love to sing but don’t know what to do with your feet? Never done either but think it might be fun? Join R.L. and Dennis for a quick “down and dirty” session on music and dance. Explore your hidden talents! We’ll sing, dance, and laugh a lot.

IMPROVISING CHARACTER
Instructor: Scott Creighton
July 24, 1:00-3:00pm

Ever wonder how actors come up with their characters? We will use improvisational games and techniques to develop and explore the character building process. Fun, fast, furious and insightful. Explore different points of view, different personalities and different worlds in a safe and humor-filled environment.

CREATIVITY BLAST
July 26, 1:00-3:00pm
Instructor: Denise Simone

Creativity is the natural order of life. Life is energy – pure creative energy. Through writing, theatre exercises and storytelling, this class is designed to awaken your creative energy. Better than coffee – and much more fun!

THE AUDITION
July 31, 1:00-3:00pm
Instructors: John Glenn & Denise Simone

The audition is at the heart of every interaction between actor and director. It is the three minutes when you reveal who you are and what you can achieve. Participants will be asked to prepare one monologue before class starts so they may experience an audition. Through feedback and exercises, you’ll learn to focus on the work instead of “what they think of you.”
