Company of Fools presents, K2, by Patrick Meyers running February 14 through March 4, 2007 at the Liberty Theatre in Hailey, Idaho.

In the play, K2, two climbers, Taylor and Harold, it is the all-consuming dream to reach the ice-torn summit. Taylor is an arrogant, womanizing attorney who sees personal gratification as the focus of existence. Harold is a soft-spoken physicist who has found an almost mystic satisfaction in his selfless love for his wife and young son. When their climb goes awry, they are stranded on a ledge at 27,000 feet, with Harold badly injured, just 1,250 feet below the summit. They have lost one of their ropes, and the remaining one is neither long nor strong enough to serve as a sling to lower Harold to the next ledge. As Taylor climbs back up the mountain in an attempt to recover the other rope, the two men keep up a running conversation that begins in a lighthearted vein but gradually shades into an affirmation of their loyalty to each other as they struggle to survive.

Company of Fools’ veteran director, John Glenn, directs the show featuring Chad Smith and Joel Vilinsky.

Located in the Himalayas of Pakistan, K2 is 28,251 feet tall—a little shorter but more dangerous to climb than Mt. Everest because of its remote location and steep summit. Charles S. Houston, the leader of an actual K2 expedition of 1953 spoke of the ''great beauty of clear cold air,'' of ''colors beyond the ordinary,'' of ''the lure of unknown regions beyond the rim of experience'' - and, most of all, of leaving behind the inessentials of existence to arrive at ''the core of life itself.'
