ACT II
ACT II is an acting workshop designed exclusively for adults 55 and over. Taught by COF’s Core Company Artist Denise Simone, ACT II provides participants with an experience of the highest quality. No prior theatre experience is necessary.
ACT II: STAGES OF MEMORY
THIS CLASS IS FULL
Most of us love to share our stories. The simple act of storytelling is theatre in its purest and most thrilling form. In this workshop, we’ll explore personal memories through theatre exercises that will help us weave them into a theatrically engaging story. For adults 55 and over.

CREATIVE JUMP-IN!s
Creative Jump-IN!s are classes designed for people who want a blast of creativity to electrify their senses. Each one-time class is two hours in length and is taught by Company artists. No prior theatre experience is necessary to participate. For adults 17 or older.
- CHARACTER BUILDING BLOCKSThis class will explore some fun ways to help build a character. Delving into the details that create who we are as individuals is a process of exciting discovery. Using text and a variety of exercises, we will play with different ways to find and build a character.Teacher: Claudia McCain Date: Monday, July 11Time: 1 – 3pm

- LEARNING YOUR “5-6-7-8′s” and YOUR “Do-Re-Mi’s” THIS CLASS IS FULL
No need to fear the audition, the first music rehearsal, or the choreographer! This two-day workshop takes you into the rehearsal hall to prepare an actual song. During these sessions, R.L. and Dennis will use the practical preparation of the songs with choreography to demonstrate the techniques and attitudes needed to quiet the noise and engage the creative mind to learn lyrics, harmonies and movements.Teachers: R.L. Rowsey and Dennis Rexroad Date: Wednesday, July 13 & Thursday, July 14 (must take both days) - PUTTING IT TOGETHER: Moving as You’re SingingLove to dance but afraid to sing? Love to sing but don’t know what to do with your feet? Never done either but think it might be fun? Join R.L. and Dennis for a quick “down and dirty” session on music and dance. - THE KING’S SPEECHYou may not stutter, but you can learn how to blend right in with the British royalty! Have fun learning how to incorporate a dialect into your acting. Learn the vowel changes and intonations of the Royal Pronunciation and how to apply them in rehearsal.Teacher: Beth Hilles Date: Thursday, July 21Time: 1 – 3pm
- A LOCATION, AN OCCUPATION & AN OBJECTTHIS CLASS IS FULL
A person stands in front of an audience, asks them a few questions, and thanks them. What follows next is a series of scenes, stories, monologues and songs—completely improvised, all based on the suggestions from the audience. You wonder how “a carpenter and a sponge” could ever lead to anything, than find yourself singing that funny sponge song the next day. This workshop will focus on developing scenes and characters from audience suggestions, and working together as an ensemble.Teacher: Andrew Alburger Date: Tuesday, July 26Time: 1 – 3pm - SAY YES TO THE MESSTHIS CLASS IS FULL
This class will focus on the simple concept of “letting go and saying yes” which, once understood, leads to some very funny and surprising improv moments. For the second year in a row, Company of Fools collaborates with Sun Valley Center for the Arts to offer two fantastic Creative Jump-IN! classes taught by local textile artist Deb Gelet.
- SILK DYING – Wednesday, July 6Learn how to hand-dye silk prayer flags. Students will discover fiber reactive dye colors and manipulate dye absorption for visual texture.
- PRINTMAKING – Thursday, July 7Create printing blocks and print on flags using textile inks and paints. Iconography and personal symbols are highly encouraged.
