Mr. Shanley will share his insights into his writing process, stories of his film career as writer and director and the importance of theatre in our society. All this from the Oscar winner who got up and thanked "everybody who ever punched or kissed me in my life and everybody who I ever punched or kissed."
Winner of the 2010 Obie Award for Best New American Play!
When four lost New Englanders who enroll in a six-week-long community-center drama class begin to experiment with harmless games, hearts are quietly torn apart, and tiny wars of epic proportions are waged and won.
Minimal and daring, this oddball comedy strips itself to a basic question: Can we be better people?

Company of Fools will recognize the 10th anniversary of 9/11 on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at 2pm by inviting the community to come together to reflect upon on the events of 9/11 through music and a reading of Anne Nelson’s The Guys. This special event will be held at the Liberty Theatre in Hailey and is free and open to the entire community. Donations will be accepted to benefit Blaine County Search and Rescue. This event is made possible through the generosity of Gilman Contemporary.
“The arts have always been a powerful medium for healing,” says Denise Simone, a Core Company Artist at Company of Fools. “We want to honor this important anniversary by doing what we do best – sharing a story that resonates with our community.”
The performance will begin with inspirational music by A FEW GOOD MEN, a newly created a cappella group for male voices. The group includes John Mauldin, Paul Stoops, Dawson Howard, Tim Eagan, Doug Taylor, George Sedlack, Dick Brightman and R.L. Rowsey
Immediately following will be a reading of The Guys by Anne Nelson featuring Denise Simone and Joel Vilinsky under the direction of John Glenn.
The Guys by Anne Nelson is a dialogue between a fire captain who has lost most of his men in the collapse of the Twin Towers and an editor who helps him write the eulogies as she herself struggles to come to terms with the events of 9/11. The piece originally played as a workshop production with Bill Murray and Sigourney Weaver, and its initial year-long run featured other notable performers including Susan Sarandon, Anthony LaPaglia, Tim Robbins, Helen Hunt, Marlo Thomas, Stephen Lang, Amy Irving, Bill Irwin, Swoosie Kurtz and Dan Lauria.
FOR TICKETS
Doors will open at 1:30pm and the event will begin at 2pm. Donations are welcome and appreciated and will benefit Blaine County Search and Rescue.

November 4
The Idaho premiere of a new dramatic work commissioned by Company of Fools
This powerful new piece from playwright Clay McLeod Chapman was originally commissioned by Company of Fools. Chapman has catapulted front and center into the American theatre scene, having written the book for the musical HOSTAGE SONG with Obie-award winning Kyle Jarrow and writing the book for the new musical SCKBSTD with Grammy-winner Bruce Hornsby.
In COMMENCEMENT, one actress plays three women drawn together in the aftermath of a high school shooting - the mother of the shooter, one of the shooters victims, and the mother of that victim. The play is a deep exploration of the lives of three women that, according to SEE Magazine "...will leave you wringing your hands in helpless empathy."
COMMENCEMENT will be performed for school matinees on November 3 and 4
and for the public at the Liberty on Friday November 4.
There will be a special invited performance at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts on Saturday November 5
